Carpet Stains

"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."

Richard Dawkins

(If we are just the carbon-based bits of goo that Dawkins thinks we are, from where does he obtain his moral standard with which to condemn the "God of the Old Testament?" He is borrowing the morality of the God to condemn God. That is not unlike a child sitting on his father's lap and slapping his father's face. He could not reach his father's face unless he were supported by his father's lap. EF)

"I am against religion because it teaches us to be satisfied with not understanding the world. "

Richard Dawkins

(Does that include scientists like Roger Bacon, Galileo, Kepler, Boyle, and Copernicus, to name a few - all of whom professed a firm faith in Jesus Christ? EF)

"Faith is a living and unshakable confidence, a belief in the grace of God so assured that a man would die a thousand deaths for its sake."

Trip to the Vet

Just getting ready for another year of teaching. So busy right now. I have been thinking a great deal about the armor of God these days. I have been laying my armor down lately instead of picking it up and putting it on. I don't seem to get it that I desperately need it. I don't generally attribute too much to "the devil" as a rule. But I do feel his attack recently. What's really interesting about Ephesians 6 is that we are just commanded to put it on and then just stand firm. We are told to stand firm several times. Stand firm in the assurance that the armor is what we need. And if you think about the armor it is exactly what we need and exactly what we already possess - faith, righteousness, the gospel, salvation, the Word, truth. I have faith given to me, I am made righteous already in Christ, the good news is what I live, the Word is right in front of me, and I know the truth. What am I lacking? Picking it all up and putting it all on! Lord forgive me for my laziness and for thinking that You have not given me what I think I need. Solo Deo Gloria!

Milk Bones

I've seen a look in dogs' eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts.

Milk Bones

Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.

Back from my Walkies

Been gone this last month a lot. Went to Italy and Greece and camped at Sullivan Lake. Had a great time but am very glad to be home. I'll post some pictures of Europe when I figure out how to get them off the camera. Got a few pics of some lazy Greek and Italian dogs.
